I'm mentioned twice, I feel super famous now. That made me chuckle. Crazy how you can actually recap the whole evening accurately without being there.

I do understand Basen's perspective - I just wish he understood it a little better. He's always been a journalist, never, I don't think, a reporter, and as such has always had the luxury of time to study, think, and weigh his words.

When Steve Paiken did a talk on what the life of a daily TV news reporter was like 10 years ago, I thought, who on earth would want to do this? Better to be a cop - at least they give you a car with a siren as you rush back and forth from studio to location to studio to location to studio.....

I did indeed -- and had a special thought for Joe and Ira as I wrote the word to the wise at the end of the first paragraph of this blog post. Times they are a changin'.

I really did laugh out loud at the videos.

I'm assuming you saw this kerfuffle where Ira Basen peevishly complains about his speech to the Canadian Institute Social Media Conference being live Tweeted http://propr.ca/2008/ira-basen-objects-to-my-twitter-coverage-of-his-conference-presentation/ and the follow-up where he finally provides his speech (I think he must have a thing about making a direct comment on a blog - either that or he really likes making people cut and paste from emails). Speech and follow-up here: http://propr.ca/2008/ira-basens-presentation-to-the-canadian-institute-conference-on-social-media/.
